The best low-cost hotels in Paris

How to travel around the city of lights without going over budget

The best low-cost hotels in Paris
Does Paris cost an arm and a leg? Maybe, maybe not. Just the same as any other place in the world, it depends on where you’ll be staying. Our suggestions are to be taken with the idea of the average tourist in mind, someone who isn’t going to spend too much, yet would like to stay in a clean and comfortable place. While there are many ways to compare hotel prices, they’re mostly just sophisticated filters that are based on hard algorithms, not solid advice from experience that comes from having really stayed in the city.

Our evaluation obviously cannot include special offers, last minute, or last second decisions that are subject to far too many variables. This guide’s obviously based on our own experiences and judgment, but it’s still worth a look over before you book your hotel in Paris.

Hotel La Manufacture

8, Rue Philippe de Champagne.

This three star hotel is located in the 13th arrondissement, only a couple meters away from Place d’Italie. It’s not exactly a central location, but there are still three metro lines that can take you anywhere in Paris in about fifteen minutes, and it’s really easy to get to from Orly airport. It’s a relatively small building with smaller rooms, but that’s pretty standard for all of Paris. The rooms are certainly very comfortable and welcoming, and they all come with an LED television and a safe. If you’re staying for just one night, you’ll probably want to skip the breakfast since it’s cheaper (and better) to get it in any of the many nearby cafès.

Hotel Republique

31, Rue Albert Thomas.

Two stars in the heart of the 10th arrondissement, located in Marais, in between Gare de l’Est and Gare de Nord, and close to Place de la Republique. Don’t be discouraged by the number of stars: this hotel’s rooms are exquisitely comfortable, and its prices stay low even during high tourist season. Amenities are included, from phone service, to satellite TV, to free WiFi.

The best compromise between quality and expense for your weekend in Paris

The best low-cost hotels in Paris
Hotel Avalon Paris

133 Blvd de Magenta.

Located in between the 8th and 9th arrondissement, closer to the Gare du Nord, this hotel has three stars and recently renovated rooms, even though the WiFi is an additional charge. It’s located by Montmartre and Sacre Coeur cathedral, and is only five minutes away if you arrived in Paris via Eurostar. The price is more than acceptable.

Hotel Mirific Opera

119, Avenue De Clichy

Right next to the Moulin Rouge and Place de Clichy, this three star hotel is in an extremely central position right next to the Brochant metro. An important thing to mention is that this hotel has air conditioning. The rooms are very cheap considering the hotel’s location, which is probably due to the beds being old and not very comfortable.

Hotel Des Arts Montmartre

18, Rue de Rochechouart.

A simple one star hotel, it’s located smack dab in the middle of Montmartre. The low price is due to the lack of room service, but it’s in an excellent position for anyone who wants to explore central Paris. It’s probably not a good idea for those who prefer comfort and decoration, however.

Kuntz Hotel

2 Rue des 2 Gares.

Only a minute away from the Gare de l’Est and perfectly placed within the 10th arrondissement, this hotel provides excellent service. It’s a family run, two star hotel which is well kept, even though it’s not very prestigious. Very good price.

Hotel Innova

32, Boulevard Pasteur

This hotel is by Montparnasse, close to Les Invalides and the Eiffel tower. It’s a seven story tall two star hotel close to the Pasteur Metro, and easily reachable from the airport’s train station. One plus is that the rooms have been soundproofed! A continental breakfast is offered for a modest price, which may actually be a decent idea for those on a budget.

Hotel Ibis Paris Jemmapes

12, Rue Louis Blanc.

A two star hotel of the Ibis chain, this hotel is close to the Saint-Martin Canal, the Buttes-Chaumont park, and La Villette (City of Science). There are 49 rooms available, all with modern amenities and appropriately priced to the included services.
